Strong Typhoon Hit Philippines
Approximately 10,000 people died and around 100,000 people took shelter in evacuation centers in the central Philippines province of Leyte after Typhoon Haiyan hit on November 8th 2013. Typhoon Haiyan is known as one of the strongest storms ever that caused landfall, lashed the area and destroying coastal towns.
Even after four months, affected residents were still desolated and hopless.

EM Volunteers Stand Up
EM Research Philippines Inc, our official partner along with resellers of Harbest Agribusiness Corporation and Earthventure, Inc., stand to support the damaged area supplying EM products for free. They provided with approximately 15 tons of EM・1 to be activated and used for spraying the devastated area. Especially, Activated EM・1 (AEM) was applied into 60 temporary landfill for dead bodies to control malodors. AEM was also applied in the debris of houses, roads and the community at all.
Thanks to the activities of Mr. Ben Klepp, a member of the retrieval operations team and EM user from Germany, EM materials and volunteers could go to Leyte with also the help of the Society of Divine Word (SDW) foundation. The relief operation headquarters located at the Sto. Nino Parish in Commonwealth, Quezon city, send supplies gathered from donations including EM・1, molasses, backpack, sprayers, drums and body bags.
Approximately a group of 100 people of rescue and emergency medical team pitched camp for one month.
Mr. Klepp immediately kicked off the preparation of AEM and determined the most effective dilution to fight the stench from dead bodies scattered in the area, and started working with the retrieval team. EM volunteers actively help to move the dead bodies and spray AEM everywhere where the emergency medical team was working.

A tent served as the San Joaquin Bgy Hall where bulk of work has been for preparation of Death Certificates. While the town did not have a source of electricity yet, Mr. Klepp set up his solar panel for the Hall’s use to power up their laptop and printer.

After the EM application to the decomposing bodies, the priests who celebrate mass by the graves noticed that the stench has been reduced.
