Overview

Tamaki EM Milk Farm has about 400 dairy cows spread over three farms. According to the president, Mr. Tamaki, these cows were brought from Hokkaido, the northernmost prefecture of Japan known for dairy production, and bred as Holsteins.

Cattle are raised in spacious facilities with high ceilings that promote good ventilation and prevent a sense of confinement. As a result, the cows experience less stress and are able to move around.

Milking takes place twice a day at 4:00 am and 4:00 pm.

EM Technology was introduced in 1995 and Tamaki EM Milk products are very popular throughout Japan.

 

Problems

In Okinawa, dairy farmers face the adverse effects of challenging climatic conditions on milk production. The long summers lead to a decrease in both the quantity and quality of milk, resulting in fluctuating milk prices that present significant challenges for farm management.

 

EM Application

Tamaki EM Milk Farm introduced EM Technology and eco-friendly practices into their operations for the care of their cows. Specifically, they add Activated EM·1 and EM Bokashi to the specially formulated feed they provide to the cows.

Results

The barns have less odor and fewer flies, creating a highly hygienic environment and ensuring the cows' well-being. 
The incidence of mastitis was reduced, resulting in healthier cows.
In addition, cows raised on feed supplemented with EM produce less odor due to the improved gut microflora.
Normally, the fat content of milk changes with the seasons and is lower in winter. However, the fat content of their EM milk remains stable at 2.9% throughout the year.
*Fat content in milk significantly affects its taste and quality.
The average milk production per cow is 25-27kg per day (the maximum milk production per cow reaches 53kg per day).
